Low Lites

Low Lites can be any darker shade than what our base color is.  Some are or feel too blonde and want different levels of blonde in their hair so we put a darker shade of blonde and light browns throughout so it breaks up the flat blonde look.  You can be subtle with your blondes and browns and just put a few levels of deeper tones in the hair.  And many like to go bold and put very dark against very light.  Also useing reds to go with some browns and blondes are eye catching.   Blue, Green Yellow, Purple, all systems are go with Low Lites!

Hair Color Knowledge

There are different ways of coloring your hair depending on what result you are looking for. There are color, rinses, color washes, temporary color, permanent color, color cocktail etc.  Color rinses wash out when you shampoo
Color washes are very weak in developer strength so you can freshen up your color and will wash out within  a few weeks depending on how much you shampoo your hair, if you shampoo everyday you will get a week or so.
Semi Permanent Colors are designed to stay in your hair 4-6 weeks, again if you shampoo everyday or have gray hair to cover it will not last a full 4 weeks. Keeping in mind gray hair can be very resistant and a Semi Color may not even work for you
Permanent Color is a higher strength developer designed to open the hair shaft and soften the cuticle so the color molecules will be able to enter the hair strand.  Gray hair coverage is best with permanent hair color.  Sometimes you will get fading if your gray is resistant or you are out in the sun a lot.  But pretty much you will see hair growth when your roots show up and you know its time to color.
Color  Cocktail  is a squirt of a bright color to kick it up notch! Just a kick, a burst of something rich whether its a red, plum, gold etc.

Hair Spray 2

Hair Spray can be used for styling and shaping and also for extra hold.  Extra hold is always good when you are finished with your style and the shaping is good when you want to spray and work with your hair.  Hair Spray that goes on dry is easier to work with and of course going on dry always helps the hair style from falling if its a wet spray.  Living in humid states in the summer humidity resistant hair spray can be very helpful.

Hair Spray Helpful Hints #1

Using a light weight shaping spray you can blow dry your hair and than spray your hair and continue to style with round brush and blower or curling/flat iron.  You can get volume on top of your hair for some puff/height by spraying lightly the root area and over directing with iron in the opposite direction your hair will fall.  This will help you get your style quicker and easier and hold longer.  Remember not to hold the spray can too close to your head so its not all over your scalp.

When Styling Your Hair.....

When Styling Your Hair you want to be sure you not only use the styling product that works for your hair and the style you have, but also be sure you blow dry your hair completely dry.  When the warm heat is on your hair it can feel dry and it isnt.  Always let your hair cool a bit and feel your hair again.  It must be completely dry for the style you put in to work and to stay

All about Hair: Caring For Hair Extensions

All about Hair: Caring For Hair Extensions

Caring For Hair Extensions

Caring For Hair Extensions is very important.  First you want to be sure you have real hair, and you want to use a boar bristle hair brush.  You want to sleep at night with your hair braided, or in a pony tail with cloth scrunchies down the pony so the hair will not get tangled while you sleep.  When you wash your hair do it in the shower and work in a downward motion, do not swish your hair around, it will tangle.  Use a good shampoo and conditioner.  If you take good care of your hair and extensions the longer they will last.  We do Micro Bead at Tropical Waves Hair Salon, very nice way to apply them and safer to the hair comparing to some other methods.

Mark Your Calender - 2

My last post was to mark your calender to condition your hair;  you also want to mark your calender to trim your hair.  If you like the style you are wearing you really should keep it trimmed every 4-6 weeks.  If you have the type of hair that grows slow you can go 8-10 weeks.  If you are trying to grow your hair I would skip the one trim date and just follow up with every other cut date.  Now if you do not have healthy hair or your ends tend to split or you have thin hair you should trim every 6-8 weeks and just get a "dusting" which is trimming a minimal amount off but that will help prevent breakage.
